Residential Applications
Here is some information and applications of good bird work and some bad bird
work that we have seen.
Bird work on a home is a little different than commercial buildings because
the bird problem is usually closer to the ground given the size of the building
and the bad habit birds have of nesting above entry points to the house.

Birds especially pigeons like to nest in roof line overhangs since they
offer protection from the sun and predators flying overhead.
The problem is that this area is just above the door
way and as the pigeon feces builds up it rolls down the tiles onto the
walkway below, creating slip and fall hazards and can also get into the air
you breath.
Exclusion net, screen or shock systems of the tile areas is the
best solution to this problem. Spike in an area like this will allow the
birds a good nest site, since they can walk up to the spike and drop twiggs
into the spike and build up the area for a nesting site. |

Cliff
Swallows are migratory birds that can be found in many South Western states.
They begin building the nest in the spring and
prefer locations where mosquitoes, flies and beetles are in good supply.
Cliff Swallows like to attach their mud nests to
the underside of eaves, one of the best way to stop them is to net off
the area to break up the angle. |
 |
A new product in
the market place for 04 is called the BirdSlide.
It breaks up the angle and doesn't allow the
Cliff Swallows to nest, this product is also good for tops of pillars in
keeping pigeons off. |

Bird
Gels have been around for a long time under different names like Roost No
More, 4The Birds, Tangelfoot and so on.
Gels are designed to make pigeons feel
uncomfortable when they stand on the gel and this will make them move away -
Yes & No
Most gels are petroleum base products and
will dry out after a period of time depending on climate extremes, Southwest
about 3-6 months. When the gel dries out it turns black and leave a sticky
mess that attracts feather, dust, feces and sometime small song birds, but
at this point it doesn't keep pigeons away it just looks bad. |
 |
Today's home
builders are putting up home so fast that attention to detail is very poor.
Some subcontractors that do the framing or roofing work appear to not have
any pride in their work as is evident buy all the unfinished overhangs and
other locations that pigeons can get into an attic.
Make sure that your eaves and vents are closed so as
not to allow birds into your attic. Pigeon feces, feathers can get into you
air duct system and cause health problems for you and your family.
Pest birds can harbor over 40 types of
parasites, & host internally 60 types of infectious diseases
